Levy Trail South

I walked Levy Trail South late this morning in 33:06. ...Ed and I plan to golf at 1 p.m. This round should set the early standard for my 2021 season. I expect to score somewhere between 90 and 105 on the Burns Park Championship Course or 89-100 on the Tournament Course. ...We'll see. ...We played the Championship Course. Ed scored 98, and I scored 103, with nines of 48 and 55. I used 33 putts. I had 1 birdie but no pars. It was an odd but fun round. No kidding, I had a hoot.

Levy Trail South

I walked Levy Trail South this morning in 33:31. If someone put an atomic bomb in my basement and told me it would go off immediately after the Packers-Tamp Bay NFC championship game this afternoon if I didn't correctly pick the winner, I would pick Tampa. I can't tell you how much I hope that scenario, provided I had a basement, would lead to my evaporation. This Green Bay team can't win a championship beyond the 2022 season, or maybe 2023, so the Rodgers-led version needs to win now in order for him to have any chance to rank with the all-time football greats and, more importantly, for the Packers' last thirty seasons to rank with and perhaps at the top of football best long-term runs. ...My concern is not with Tom Brady but rather with Tampa's No. 1 ranked run defense. If Green Bay can't run, Rodgers becomes no better than a bit above average. We'll see.

Oaklawn

HOT SPRINGS—I walked for 36:42 through and around Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort this afternoon. That's the new official name of Oaklawn, which is too bad. They replaced Park with Racing Casino Resort. Seems kind of nuts.

Levy Trail Loop

I walked the Levy Trail Loop this morning in 31:53. On the other hand, if Republicans are in, too, then fuck President Trump. It would be worthy of whatever our single-minded liberal and conservative leadership can pull off in that regard. Just so long as none of them say they believe our democracy is otherwise threatened, because it isn't, and none of them believe it is. We will be fine either way, but at least we'll be forever finished with Donald Trump as a national officeholder.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

QUESTIONS OF THE DAY  Does anyone believe our democratic way of life is jeopardized by President Trump's next nine days in office? If it is, then fuck, we're doomed no matter what, so why bother with all this impeachment and 25th Amendment stuff?

War Memorial Park

Several other Geezers and I walked for a little over 1:38 around War Memorial Park this morning. It was colder than two motherfuckers.

Levy Trail Loop

I walked the Levy Trail Loop late this afternoon in 34:05.

QUESTION OF THE DAY Does anyone else think President Trump might resign in the next few days and subsequently receive a pardon from President Pence, which is exactly the deal Nixon made with Ford?

Ellison Barber

The major American television networks should all offer Ellison Barber somewhere in the neighborhood of a million dollars a minute to cover live news events. I'm gripped by NBC's coverage because of the chance it will go back to her minute-by-minute accounts of what has unfolded before her. By the way, she's a fairly typical-looking TV blonde, in no way petepretty. ...Meanwhile, Adam Kinzinger, a Republican U.S. representative from Ilinois, might become an attractive presidential candidate based on nothing more than a five-minute interview with Lestor Holt completed at about 2:08 p.m. CST. ...At about 2:15 p.m., NBC showed a video of several, nine or ten or so, protestors just walking around inside the chamber of the U.S. Senate. You know, picking up and examining stuff off desks, taking pictures, and so forth. Man, what great television. Just fantastic. ...At 2:29 p.m., NBC's Pete Williams reported someone was shot by law enforcement inside the Capitol Building.

The way uniformed authorities reacted to the mob in Washington today might help set a standard. Knocks on doors tomorrow rather than on heads today, all on worldwide TV, will serve justice in a civil but equally effective way, I believe. —Pete nearly published this on Erin's Facebook post (the one about how Chris' wardrobe is similar to today's protesters) in response to someone's request for rubber bullets and the like

Levy Trail South/Levy

I walked Levy Trail South this morning in 29:03. This was my easiest fast walk in years. I can't explain it. Last night, I walked randomly around Levy's Better Homes district through a drenching rain for 34:21. Please tell Dog and Sister Nos. 1 that Pete said hello and Happy New Year.
