Pam's Path/Levy Loop

Pete has decided not to change to the name of the 38th Street Loop but rather to name a new course in honor of the late great Pam.
I walked the four-mile Pam's Path today in 1:04:06. It's almost all on the Levy Trail, except for the circa three-tenths of a mile back and forth to the trail from my house. It goes from my driveway to the north end of the asphalt, then to 33rd Street, and finally to the Levy police precinct and back to the house.
This evening I walked the Levy Loop in 33:10.

Hindman Park Golf Course

John Czarnecki and I played Hindman Park Golf Course this morning and afternoon. I scored a 101, with nines of 48 and 53. I used 32 putts. It was probably my best round since I started playing again last October. I scored eights on Nos. 9 and 18. The last particularly stung, since a six would've put me under 100. Poor John. He shot 149, with nines of 75 and 74.

Ghetto Cat Loop

I walked the Ghetto Cat Loop this morning in 34:14.

Levy Trail 5K/Hash

Scooting is clearly a relative term. It felt as if that was what I was doing all along the Levy Trail 5K this morning, and it still took me fucking 46:05 to complete. I alternated three-minute walks with one-minute jogs and went through splits of 15:12, 14:33, and 14:50. My three-mile time was 44:35.
This afternoon I walked and jogged with the Little Rock Hash for 1:27:45 from someone's house in Stift Station. I'll guess I went about four and a half miles. Man, I'm tired.

Cooks Landing/Levy Trail

I joined the Geezers this morning for a 7.07-mile walk from Cooks Landing through the Burns Park soccer fields. We were out for 2:11:04.
It's 88°F at 4:02 p.m. in Levy. The goddamn RealFeel® is 97. This is our first distinctly summer-feeling day. Consequently, I pretty much stuck to the shady portion of the Levy Trail between 42nd and 38th streets, just going back and forth where it was coolest. I was out for 39:41 and covered a little over two miles. My goal was to not sweat so much that I would need a shower before I leave to report on a Travelers-Frisco RoughRiders baseball game.

War Memorial Golf Course/Levy Trail Loop

Jo turned ten today, and John Czarnecki, Tim Biggs, and I played War Memorial Golf Course. I scored a 91, with nines of 47 and 44. I used 31 putts. John scored 106 and Tim 108.
This evening I walked the Levy Trail Loop in 35:29.

Burns Park Loop/Levy

There was a nice Geezer group this morning, with Rosemary, Ann Kell, Y.T., Sandy Venable, Bill Brass and his brother-in-law Mike, and me. We walked the Burns Park Loop. Rosemary, Ann, and I completed it in 1:46:31. My legs felt great. I was tempted to run a few times.
This evening I walked the first mile and quarter or so of Levy Trail South, but when I reached the street near Spectators, I returned home along a random route. At one point, I jogged for about a hundred yards. It felt nice. I was out for 38:01.

Maple Street Loop/Levy Trail

I walked the Maple Street Loop this morning in 36:43.
I stopped for a moment on West Street to pet the fun and friendly red cat I had not seen in a long time. A moment of research indicated that he and I last met on Feb. 15, 2014. On that day, I noted that I had not seen him "in a couple of years." I also mentioned that he wore tags for the first time in my presence and that he looked healthy. Both of those factors were true today, too. What a cool cat. He loves attention and is perfectly equipped to attract it. I wish he were out and visible from the street more often.
Man, I was lucky to get home without embarrassing myself this evening. I walked in, ate a Halloween-size PayDay bar, and measured my blood glucose at 50 mg/dl. I was surprised it was that high.
I started on the Levy Trail and finished headed south on Camp Robinson and Orange Street and was out for 1:24:02. Nothing on Orange looked familiar until I reached the Chiropractic Clinic.

Levy Trail/Rebsamen Park West Nine

Ron and Elaine Gimblet and Rosemary joined me for a Levy Trail walk this morning. I was out for 1:42:55.
I played the Rebsamen Park West Nine with Gil this afternoon in 41, which is eight-over par. We then played Nos. 1 and 9 again. I scored a one-over nine. I hit much better iron shots today.

Lakewood Lake No. 2/War Memorial Golf Course

I occasionally joke that I have used a walk as a warm-up for a drive somewhere or a round of golf, but this time that's close to how it worked out. Because of Ron's tweaked back, he and Elaine and I walked two laps around Lakewood Lake No. 2 this morning in 46:03, or 2.11 miles at over 23 minutes a mile. Roger "Tripod" Chinn and I are scheduled to tee off at War Memorial in about an hour. For the time being, I feel great. I have worked quite a bit on my swing after the disaster from two weeks ago at Rebsamen and am excited to see the result.
I played fine, but I still can't hit an iron worth a fuck or a wood very far. Roger, on the other hand, hits drives about, no kidding, 280 yards. I scored an 86 with nines of 45 and 41. Roger scored 88, but only because he hasn't played much lately. I used 33 putts.

Levy Trail/Hash

I sort of mixed the Levy Trail 5K with the Levy Trail Loop this morning. It worked out to a walk of about four miles completed in 1:11:55.
Late this afternoon, I was out for 55:05 on a Hash run set from the Covered Bridge in Burns Park.

Levy Trail

I walked to the north end of the pavement on the Levy Trail and back this evening, with a lap around the Levy Church of Christ, in 37:36. My guess is that I covered about two and one-third miles.

Levy Trail South

I walked Levy Trail South this morning in 35:47. Mosquitos ate my arms and neck.

Thursday, May 18, 2017

Burns Park Loop/Levy Trail Loop

Four other Geezers walked the Burns Park Loop this morning. I started with them but cut it short and finished in 1:12:53.
This evening I walked the Levy Trail Loop in 33:42.

River Trail

I and the other Geezers walked 4.5 miles on the River Trail from Burns Park Golf Course this morning in 1:12:16, a swift pace by my recent standards. It felt nice.

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

Levy Trail South

I walked Levy Trail South this evening in 35:23. It's nice out. Warm but dry with a little breeze.

Sunday, May 14, 2017

38th Street Loop

I walked the 38th Street loop this evening in 33:13.

Burns Park/Levy Trail South/Levy Trail South

I got a little behind. On Wednesday morning, I walked for about 45 minutes on the Burns Park green trail and through the campgrounds. Yesterday afternoon, I was caught in a thunderstorm as I walked Levy Trail South in a little under 32 minutes. I walked Levy Trail South this morning in 33:28.

Rebsamen Park Golf Course

John Czarnecki and I played Rebsamen Park Golf Course this afternoon and evening. I scored a 118 with nines of 58 and 60. I used 33 putts, which helps indicate how poorly I hit full swings. Not only did I play like a beginner, but the round beat the goddamn dog fuck out of my legs. I'm exhausted. I fucking hate golf. How does a motherfucker use 33 putts and score 118? John scored a 128.
At least we laughed a lot.
I overheard the club pro tell a funny story before we played  He spoke of a buddy of his who played St. Andrews recently. He said the guy shanked the shit out of his first-tee drive, then bent over to tee up another ball. He looked up at his caddy and said, "In the U.S., we call this a mulligan. What do people over here call it?"
The caddy said, "Sir, we call it our third shot."

Hash

I was out for 57:15 on a Hash run from Interstate Park. We had a beer stop at the home of the Sunset Tigers, an 80-yard peewee football field not far from the State Fairgrounds. It was the first time I had been there since 1995, when I attended a Tigers game while reporting on the status of youth football in the Little Rock metro. David Meroney told me he watched several games there through about 2012 as a Big Brother to one of the Tigers.
Pam's renown among Hashers was evident today as they practically lined up to express their condolences. It was nice, though I have not yet arrived at the point where I can speak of her without my voice breaking a bit. That's a new experience for me. I can't fully account for it.

Pam's Loop

Pete asked me to rename the 38th Street Loop in honor of the great Pam. I agreed and walked Pam's Loop early this afternoon in 32:14.

PROFESSOR PETE'S AMAZINGLY PERFECT CAN'T-MISS KENTUCKY DERBY PICK
Hence (No. 8), the Sunland Derby winner, will crush the field to win the Kentucky Derby. He should go off at about 12-1.
Bet $50 to win on Hence. You'll get a return of somewhere between $650 and $800.
Pete's NO-SHIT-BUY-AN-ISLAND-OFF-MARSEILLE-WITH-YOUR-WINNINGS SUPERFECTA OF A LIFETIME calls for a $2 bet on, in order, Hence, Tapwrit (No. 16), Lookin at Lee (No. 1), and Gunnevera (No. 10). It should pay at least $750,000
RESULTS
Among the horses mentioned, Lookin at Lee finished second. All the rest sucked dicks for two minutes, three seconds.

Levy Trail South

I walked Levy Trail South this morning in 32:45.
Today would have been Pam's 16th birthday. Z Man and I had a long conversation about her this evening. I recalled an issue of the Trash in which she helped Fucks Like an Egyptian win a Super Bowl bet.
The following is part of a conversation between Pam and Reverend Bob conducted in a Lexus SUV Bob had rented at a Philadelphia airport.
The Trash, Feb. 13, 2005:
Bob asked Pam to the read him the map Fucks had scribbled for them.
"Bob, cats can't read maps," she said.
"Well here, pick it up and hand it to me."
"C'mon Bob, count my thumbs. I can't hand it to you any more than I can read it. Just reach over here and pick the motherfucker up yourself."
"Shit Pam, to tell you the truth, I don't even care," Bob said. "I'm happier than God."

River Trail

The Geezers, including me, walked from Burns Park Golf Course to the skateboard park and back this morning in 1:15:26. We saw an old guy in a pickup and a young woman in a Honda driving on the trail. They had both parked at the FOP hut, on the golf-course side of the skateboard park, and while they walked, a tree fell across the street and blocked them in. Brass called the city and by the time we reached the tree, which had pulled down a bunch of power lines, there were several city trucks in place, including the electric guys. A man in a yellow helmet had a chainsaw going a couple of minutes after we got there. It was a cool scene.
By the way, it's rained like two motherfuckers here the last few days. It began to drizzle a half-hour after we started. On top of that, this morning it's about 55 degrees and very windy. I'm still freezing.

Lakewood Lake No. 3

I walked two laps around Lakewood Lake No. 3 this morning. It took me 33:36.

I PLAN TO STAB...
...everyone who backs into their driveway as a matter of routine, unless they can satisfactorily demonstrate why they want to delay being inside their home and expedite getting the fuck away

...douche bags who keep guitars in their trunks and bring them out two hours into parties, unless they are James Taylor, Neil Young, or fucking John Lee Hooker, and even those fucks better not push it
