Community Bakery/War Memorial Golf Course

Bob McKinney directed a tour of downtown Little Rock that began and ended at the Community Bakery for the Geezers this morning. We were out for 1:59:21 and probably covered about three miles.
There was a stretch this afternoon at War Memorial Golf Course during which I felt as if I had never played. I scored a 102, with nines of 49 and 53. John also scored 102. I used 38 putts. On the other hand, I hit drives of 255 and 240 yards, my longest in several years.

River Trail/War Memorial Park Golf Course

Six other Geezers and I walked from the Burns Park Golf Course parking lot to the skateboard park and back on the River Trail this morning in 1:20:16. I'll guess we went about 4.38 miles.
I played War Memorial with John today in 89. John scored a 108. I had nines of 44 and 45 with 2 pars, 10 bogies, 4 doubles, and 2 triples. I used 30 putts.
I am currently on a run of 28 consecutive holes without a three-putt.

Levy Trail

I walked the Levy Trail from my house to the Geezer start at 33rd Street and all the way out to Camp Robinson and back and then back to my house, or about eight miles, in 2:16:31. Bill Brass, Chrissy Ferguson, and I ran 12 minutes non-stop with about two miles to go.

Levy Trail

I walked four miles on the Levy Trail this afternoon in 1:03:49.

PETE THE WIZARDS' SILVER BULLET RACE NO ONE COULD POSSIBLY GIVE A SHIT ABOUT BUT THE RESULT OF WHICH HE'S SO CERTAIN HE THINKS YOU SHOULD TRY REAL GODDAMN FAST TO OPEN UP AN OFF-SHORE GAMBLING ACCOUNT LOCK OF TWO MOTHERFUCKERS' LIFETIMES

Race 8 at Turf Paradise: Bet a cold exacta with No. 5 Peppermint Kitty over No. 7 IknowsheknowsIknow. The Wizard plans to really put it on the line and bet $2, his first Internet bet since the Preakness Stakes
RESULT  It was an oddity that the Wizard had a dream late Monday afternoon, during a 30-minute nap between the proceeding post and the race, that he assumes resulted from his handicapping two Turf Paradise races. Peppermint Kitty won Race 8 at 4-5. IknowsheknowsIknow placed at 5-2. The $2 exacta paid $10.00

Maple Street Loop/Hash

It's 23°F at 10:33 a.m. Maybe that had something to do with how full of run my legs felt as I jogged the Maple Street Loop this morning in 24:15, with splits of 12:17 and 11:58. It's funny to me that I felt almost fast through parts of the second mile.
I was way out in the middle of the woods this afternoon for 1:08:58 on a Hash run set by blonde-headed Erin on the edge of west Little Rock. Now I'm home with pizza baking and my television tuned to football, and I am as content as and hungrier than two motherfuckers.

Levy Trail 5K

At 4:01 p.m., it's 75°F in Levy. I just walked the Levy Trail 5K through high wind in 45:15. I went through three miles in 43:55. I'm about to leave for Conway for a high school basketball game, through which weather.com shows a squall line running. I expect it will be in the upper 50s by the time I reach there and probably in the 40s by the time I leave at roughly 7:30.
This hot weather made for a funny 3 Bridges Marathon. It was 74 when the winners finished.

Camp Robinson

I walked the Levy Trail from my house to Camp Robinson and back (5.4 miles) in 1:28:17. Someone has cleaned up and trimmed back the trail so that it is now as pristine as any I've seen. I think you could walk on it in the middle of the summer and not see a single bug. It's gorgeous.

Burns Park Loop/Levy Trail North

I walked the Burns Park Loop with four other Geezers this morning in 1:50:05. Bill Brass and I took the lead early and walked by ourselves for all but about the first five minutes.
Early this evening I alternated one-minute jogs with four-minute walks to complete Levy Trail North in 28:57.
It took globalgolf.com goddamn sixty hours to deliver my King Cobra 5-wood. I ordered it Monday night and it didn't get here until this afternoon. And to think it cost, counting everything, nearly seventeen dollars.

Cooks Landing Loop/War Memorial Park Golf Course

I walked the 6.46-mile Cooks Landing Loop this morning in 1:46:50. Five other Geezers walked the first 35 minutes with me. It's guaranteed that my legs will be shot after about 12 holes of War Memorial Park Golf Course this afternoon. Frost Bite and I are scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m., or an hour and 13 minutes from now. This time I have a new 9-wood to unveil (a 2003 King Cobra offset SZ Hyper Steel that cost $16.98, including shipping, taxes, the whole works. I have a 5-wood from the same set on the way. Here's what's crazy: I, no kidding, ordered this club at about 11 p.m. Saturday night. It arrived at lunchtime yesterday, or about 37 hours later).
I scored an 89 for 18 holes at War Memorial Golf Course this afternoon. Frost Bite scored 122. I used 26 putts, with 11 one-putts and 1 three-putt. I scored a 10 on the par-4 2nd hole and an 11 of the par-4 18th. Other than those two blowups, I had 6 pars, 8 bogies, and 2 doubles. This was close to the best day I have ever had chipping and putting. The book has helped particularly with long, low-running chips from well off greens.

Lakewood Lake No. 3/Levy Trail South

I walked for 56:41 through neighborhoods near Lakewood Lake No. 3 with five other Geezers this morning. My blood glucose plummeted late, but I caught it in time for a tube of Gu to spare me embarrassment. Only Bill Brass noticed that anything was amiss.
This evening I alternated one-minute walks with one-minute jogs to complete Levy Trail South in 26:57.

Levy Trail North/Ridge Road Loop

I alternated one-minute walks with four-minute jogs to complete Levy Trail North this morning in 27:51.
Late this afternoon I walked the Ridge Road Loop in 1:03:30.
Nice job for the Packers. Man, I didn't see that kind of blowout coming.

Orange Street Loop/Levy Trail South

I alternated one-minute jogs with four-minute walks to complete the Orange Street Loop at lunchtime today in 39:51. I felt great, maybe good enough for a repeat performance this evening after the Packers get finished dumping the Seafucks out in the middle of Lake Michigan.
Man, I found out two minutes ago that the local Fox affiliate will not show the Packers-Seahawks game, so I will do my best to go until tomorrow morning without finding out the score so I can watch the replay and pretend as though it were live. Fuck. I'm somewhere around 0-80 with those sorts of attempts, but I persist nonetheless.
I know full well I didn't need to duck weather.com to miss the Packers' score but never once considered checking it. Now I'm glad I didn't, since rain caught me pleasantly off guard. I got fairly drenched as I alternated one-minute jogs with one-minute walks to complete Levy Trail South in 24:43. It's 50 or so, so nice and comfortable after the last few days.

Levy Trail North

I alternated two-minute jogs with three-minute walks to complete Levy Trail North this afternoon in 26:00 (25:59.90).

Burns Park Loop

I walked the Burns Park Loop with seven other Geezers this morning in 1:51:32. It's cold.

Levy Trail 5K

I jogged very slowly for a total of 29:16 and otherwise walked the Levy Trail 5K this morning in 41:14. I went through three miles in 40:00 (39:59.58). This was a little bit of work for me.
It's overcast and 40°F at 11:32 a.m. in Levy with a RealFeel®* of 35.
*by the way, I think it's cool that grammarly.com recognizes RealFeel, a term created for accuweather.com

Levy Trail 5K/War Memorial Golf Course

I walked the Levy Trail 5K this morning in 47:17. I went through three miles in 45:51, all to warm up for my tour of War Memorial Golf Couse with John Czarnecki this afternoon. I plan to pull out my new putter, 60° wedge, and the square Grand Hawk driver I used to dominate the La Loma Golf Course nine years ago.
I shot 94 for a round at Wam Memorial this afternoon. Frostbite scored 112. I had nines of 45 and 49 and used 34 putts. I really like my new putter and hit the ol' Grand Hawk well. My iron play sucked. I chipped a little better.

OVERHEARD
"So now you're going home to eat two motherfuckers, right?"

TV Hill Road

HOT SPRINGS—I walked up from Richard's house on TV Hill Road toward Central Avenue and through nearby neighborhoods for 38:54 this morning. Then I helped two very nice retired men named Monty and Tom pack a big U-Haul that I suppose dad has driven most of the way to Atchison, Kansas by now. Tom was the owner-operator of a moving company in Memphis for forty years and did his best to show us how to pack. He was amazing.

Levy Trail/Hash/DFL

It looks and feels exactly like football today. It rained all day yesterday. Soggy brown leaves are everywhere. It's grayer than two motherfuckers and 42°F. I walked to the northern end of the paved Levy Trail, turned back until I reached the south end, then returned home. If I'm not mistaken, Elaine Gimblet's watch measured this course at about 3.5 miles.
This afternoon I jogged and walked with the Hash through Burns Park for 54:21. I'll put the over-under of time spent running at thirty minutes and of distance covered at 3.28 miles. I felt fantastic.
I forgot to report the Democrat Football League's Green Bay Packers' 164.09-126.13 loss to Krup's Kids last week. This is the final weekend of our regular season. We are about to lose to the Ratpackers, barring several  unprecedented, freakish circumstances about which football fans will speak for several generations. At the moment, the Ratpackers lead, 108.72-104.84.
We will finish 5-8 and out of the playoffs for the first time since 2007.

Burns Park Loop

I walked the Burns Park Loop with the Geezers this morning in 1:48:03. This is a perfect day for some short-game practice, so, by god, I'm going back to Burns at some point today.
My backyard neighbor Merle has given me approximately forty golf books over the last ten years or so. I treasure them all but started reading one on chipping and pitching last week and think its the simplest, most repeatable advice for chips that I have ever read or watched. After about fifteen minutes this afternoon, I was hitting chips from all over the place pretty darn consistently close. Man, I'm impressed. Also, I bought a ten-year-old Odyssey putter for $19.95—total cost, including tax and shipping—from globalgolf.com that I'm crazy about. I got it yesterday afternoon and hit it today for the first time. It has a great big Ping grip that seems to work nicely.
