Levy Trail North/Poplar Street Loop

I planned to go 7.01 miles on the Levy Trail this morning, but due to stiff calves I cut way back to Levy Trail North, completed in 26:42.
Early this evening I ran one lap of the Poplar Street Loop in 14:43 to complete two miles in 28:57. My calves have felt fine the last ten days or so but were troublesome today. I have dealt with stiff calves off and on since I was fifteen. This morning I recalled a time in Wyoming when they got so stiff my feet fell asleep. No kidding. I was out on some trail way out in the prairie. I could see the campus dorms seven or eight miles away, was probably going somewhere between six and seven minutes a mile, and my goddamn feet tingled. On that same run, I saw our athletic department doctor on a bike near the edge of town, and he said, "It's a long way to Moscow."
This was the spring of 1978, two years before the Summer Olympics in Moscow, which the U.S. would boycott.
