My right foot felt well enough this morning that late in my walk I questioned for a moment which foot had hurt in the first place. I walked the Levy Trail Loop in 32:43.
This is no more than an estimate, but I now put my odds against finishing the FullMoon 50K at 1,000,006-1. No kidding, odds are so impossibly stacked against me that I think there's a chance I'll become famous if I finish under the cutoff. Fuck Lindbergh.

Hash
I was out for 54:18 with the Little Rock Hash House Harriers this afternoon. We covered about three miles through Western Hills Park, which is on a now defunct golf course I think I may have pointed out in its active days from the No. 8 fairway of First Tee.

Levy Trail 5K
My legs felt great this morning as I walked the Levy Trail 5K in 46:47, with mile splits of 15:22, 14:48, and 15:03.

Cooks Landing
We Geezers walked from Cooks Landing across the Big Dam Bridge to Two Rivers Park and back this morning in 1:34:01. According to Elaine Gimblet's telephone, we covered 5.03 miles.

Levy Trail
I walked out and back on the Levy Trail late this morning for a total of 54:24. I planned to walk to Camp Robinson, but the heat got to me.

Levy Trail South
I walked Levy Trail South late this morning in 32:59.
Today's paltry two miles, combined with nearly a week of not doing dick, will only help enhance the significance of my unlikely sub-nine hour finish in the Midnight 50K five weeks from now.

Maumelle
We Geezers walked the asphalt trails of Maumelle for 1:03:48 this morning. Afterward we ate at a woman named Dee Dee's house. She served quiche and bagels and fruit and shit.

Great Cross Country Race/Levy Trail Loop
I took a little over an hour on Saturday morning to finish The Great County Race in Boyle Park. We had a big crowd, nearly one hundred. Zach and a couple other guys made delicious burgers and bratwurst with all the fixings. I mean all of them. It was wonderful.
This morning I walked the Levy Trail Loop in 33:06.
By the way, I turned my air conditioner on Thursday evening at about 6. So I went from March 27-June 9 without heat or air, or 75 days, which shattered my record from last spring of 51. I joked with Tom that all that tomfoolery probably saved me $45.

Boyle Park
I spent 1:47:13 setting the Great Cross Country Race in Boyle Park this afternoon. I can't explain why it took so long. It can't be more than three miles long. What's more, I have to get out there early and finish up. It's not much different from the run Erin and Pete set way the fuck back in 2006.

Burns Park Loop
We Geezers walked the Burns Park Loop this morning in about 1:50. I forgot to stop my watch. One of the women said we covered 5.56 miles.
It looks as if the comfortable weather will stop tomorrow. The high today should reach the low 90s, but it's dry. Apparently high humidity is about twenty-four hours away. My house is at 68°F at 11:18 a.m. Z Man turned on his air conditioner last night.

“The more I got to know her, even over my first month here, the more I got to see really what she was all about. Autumn doesn’t just make me a better coach. She makes me want to be a better person. When you’re around her, you realize that’s she’s the kind of person you want to be like."

Poplar Street Loop/Levy Trail
These were too hard this morning. I won't keep doing them if they don't get easier. I walked and jogged three laps of the one-mile Poplar Street Loop in 14:54, 14:39, and 16:17. I completed four miles in 1:01:55.
This evening I alternated four-minute walks with one-minute jogs to complete the 5.4 miles from my house to Camp Robinson and back on the Levy Trail in 1:20:32. By the way, I ran tonight in a racing singlet (or tank top) for the first time in at least twenty years. I bought one a couple of weeks ago from New Balance. It cost $10 and arrived today. I think I might buy a few more. It will be part of my race-day costume for the Midnight 50K.

Levy-Park Hill/Levy Trail 5K
I walked from Levy into Park Hill and back this morning for 47:49. I'm not sure how far I went but walked two-tenths of a mile on the Levy Trail in exactly three minutes en route so I'll guess I went a little over three miles.
This evening I walked the Levy Trail 5K in 52:13.

Levy Trail North/Poplar Street Loop
I planned to go 7.01 miles on the Levy Trail this morning, but due to stiff calves I cut way back to Levy Trail North, completed in 26:42.
Early this evening I ran one lap of the Poplar Street Loop in 14:43 to complete two miles in 28:57. My calves have felt fine the last ten days or so but were troublesome today. I have dealt with stiff calves off and on since I was fifteen. This morning I recalled a time in Wyoming when they got so stiff my feet fell asleep. No kidding. I was out on some trail way out in the prairie. I could see the campus dorms seven or eight miles away, was probably going somewhere between six and seven minutes a mile, and my goddamn feet tingled. On that same run, I saw our athletic department doctor on a bike near the edge of town, and he said, "It's a long way to Moscow."
This was the spring of 1978, two years before the Summer Olympics in Moscow, which the U.S. would boycott.

Levy Trail Loop
I walked the Levy Trail Loop this morning in 35:49. I took my my pulse rate three times, and it was between 100-102 (+/- 2). That's about five beats too fast for a walk that slow, but I'm coming around.

35th Street Loop/West Street Loop
I alternated alternating one-minute jogs with four-minute walks with two-minute jogs and three-minute walks to complete the 35th Street Loop in 55:30, with splits of 13:49, 13:34, 14:05, and 14:01, and felt much better than yesterday. That's a 7:10:07.50 50K pace.
This evening I completed four laps of the West Street Loop but failed to time them. Each lap is a half a mile and goes up into Park Hill and back into Levy. It's tough. It's also a half mile to the start from my driveway. I did the three miles in 40:20.
By the way, I recommend today's edition of http://hypoglycemicdreams.blogspot.com to anyone who knows Pete's father.

Levy Trail/Levy Loop
I alternated four-minute walks with one-minute jogs to complete 7.01 miles on the Levy Trail in 1:42:14, or at a 7:32:06 50K pace. Coincidentally, 7.01 miles on the Levy Trail from my driveway and back consists of a trip to the far north end of the paved trail, and then of trips of its paved length from north to south, south to north, north to south again, and then north back home. I felt pretty good, though that's the farthest I have gone in I don't know how long. Maybe a couple of years.
Tonight I walked the Levy Loop in 31:46.
OVERHEARD
"Would you mind putting in a mile or two for me?"
