Two Rivers Park

We Geezers walked through Two Rivers Park this morning for 1:16:14.

PARAGRAPH OF THE DAY
Moquett sat in his second-floor office before daybreak with wife Laura, son Chance, friend Brian “Big Show” Nichols, and Greta Kuntweiler, a retired jockey who has served this season as Whitmore’s exercise rider. There was no talk of the Derby and no mention of Whitmore. The warm room was instead filled with laughter from the sort of teasing common among people who like and love each other and a litany of multicolored stories centered on veteran trainer Bernie Flint, a wisecracking regular at Oaklawn through the mid-1990s. Attention was briefly gathered by a year-old yellow cat named Red Box, but as dawn began to spill across the barns, Moquett watched outside as grooms bathed Whitmore with garden hoses and a bucket filled with generic dish detergent and water. Moquett said it had nothing to do with his gelding’s appearance for Oaklawn’s big day. “I just do it because I think it relaxes him,” he said.

Hash/Oaklawn Park

Z Man and I walked for 1:32:40 all over neighborhoods on the hill leading to Fort Roots and across the former golf course this afternoon with the the Little Rock Hash House Harriers.
I lost $25 Saturday on my final day at Oaklawn Park, including $14 bet to win on Whitmore in the Arkansas Derby. He finished third. I finished the season, after twenty trips, down $63.00.

Hot Springs/St. Louis Street Loop/Oaklawn Park

HOT SPRINGS — I walked around the barns and the Oaklawn Park parking lot for 33:48 yesterday afternoon between the Bachelor Stakes and Apple Blossom Handicap.
This morning, through a steady mist, I walked the St. Louis Street Loop in 1:06:20. I'm not sure how long the loop is, but I walked it slower than two motherfuckers. My goal for next year is to break an hour (and to pork a Mexican Shit Hole waitress).
I turned a profit of exactly $14.00 with a $4.00 bet on the Bachelor. After 19 trips, I'm down $38.00 for the season. Today wraps it up.

COLONEL PETE'S SILVER BULLET LOCK OF NINETY-FOUR LIFETIMES
Bet everything you have on Whitmore (No. 8) to win the Arkansas Derby (Race 11). Depending on how much my readers bet, he should go of somewhere between 4-1 and 6-1.

Half Mile Aly Loop/Oaklawn Park

HOT SPRINGS—At lunchtime today, I walked the new Half Mile Aly Loop from Oaklawn Park. I think it's a little over two miles. By the way, I guess someone working for the city of Hot Springs didn't know how to spell alley.
Yesterday and today, I lost a total of $13.00 to fall behind $52.00 after 18 trips. There are two more days to go.

I lost $11 betting horses at Oaklawn this afternoon and am now behind $53.00 after fifteen trips.

Maple Street Loop/Levy Trail 5K

My tibialis anterior muscles (located in the front of calves, just to the anterior side of the tibia, the big shin bone) have kept me from comfortable running for more than about two minutes for the last six weeks. They have troubled me off and on since I was fifteen, but I'm on a pretty long streak here. Usually the stiffness recedes after a couple of weeks.
This morning I jogged and walked the Maple Street Loop in 27:25, with splits of 13:45 and 13:41.
This evening I alternated two-minute jogs with three-minute walks to complete the Levy Trail 5K in 41:30, with splits of 13:30, 13:06, and 13:43.

Levy Trail North/Levy Trail 5K

I alternated two-minute jogs with three-minute walks to complete Levy Trail North this morning in 24:43, with splits of 12:22 and 12:21.
This evening I walked the Levy Trail 5K in 49:34. My first two mile splits were 16:14 and 15:42.

OVERHEARD
"Yes sir. I gotta get home and get out of this sweat suit."
—man on the Levy Trail close to the Levy Church of Christ, after Pete said, "Man, we got us a day here, don't we?" At about 9:30 a.m., it was sunny, dry, calm, and 63°F

33rd Street Loop/Levy Trail Loop

I alternated one-minute jogs with three-minute walks to complete the 33rd Street Loop this morning in 1:06:09, with splits of 13:39, 14:28, 12:29, 12:41, and 12:52.
Tonight, starting at about eight, after I watched Jo Webb and her soccer team, the Purple Elephants, get beat somewhere around 12-1, I alternated one-minute runs with four-minute walks to complete the Levy Trail Loop in 25:47, with splits of 12:42 and 13:05

OVERHEARD
"The hell with that bitch. I shoot that bitch in the head she call my mother a bitch. That bitch retarded. She retarded."
—woman shouting to a man on a driveway on Hillside Drive, further evidence of Levy's cultural diversity (a sort not exactly what Seahawks fans and University of Michigan administrators hope for)

TO THE EXTENT I CARED, WHY I WAS FOR VILLANOVA
Michael Jordan and Charlie fucking Rose walked into work this morning, laughed, and said something like, "Oh, heck, it was a wonderful game. Lord knows we've won a bunch of 'em just like it. And, man, that kid made a great shot."
Villanova students and graduates wouldn't have gotten up or else driven to Levy and called a woman's mother a bitch. The woman on Hillside Drive, I mean

Levy Trail 5K

I alternated one-minute walks with one-minute jogs to complete the Levy Trail 5K in 44:17, with splits of 13:52, 13:58, and 14:58. I went through three miles in 42:48.

OVERHEARD
"Yesterday they were four for five dollars. How much is that?. ...Well, today they're three for five dollars. How much is that?"

Levy Trail Loop/Hash

I walked the Levy Trail Loop this morning in 34:57.
This afternoon I ran and walked for 38:48 on a Hash run set by a woman named Lisa from Boyle Park. We had about forty people there, including several I had never seen before.

Ghetto Cat Loop/Oaklawn Park

I walked the Ghetto Cat Loop this morning in 34:27. It was 41°F when I started. They say it will get to 67 in Hot Springs today. We'll see.
The weather was nice, and I laughed quite a bit but nevertheless lost $22.80 to fall behind $42.00 after 14 trips.

Levy Trail North/Levy Trail 5K intervals

I jogged Levy Trail North at lunchtime today in 25:04, with splits of 12:38 and 12:26. That is my slowest lifetime run.
There currently are two theories in the Rockamundo household that may explain this: I alternated one-minute runs with one-minute walks from 0.5 through 2.5 miles to complete that particular two miles in 24:35, or 29 seconds faster than I jogged two miles nonstop this morning. I also jogged a little bit through the first and last half mile and then I ran the entire final 0.106855961186669848 miles in 1:07 to make sure I finished the entire Levy Trail 5K under forty minutes, which I did. I got it in 39:52.
I went through three miles in 38:44. My mile splits were 13:09, 12:19, and 13:16. My splits for that two-mile interval session were 12:07 and 12:28.
No, wait, there are four theories (the last two just popped up): 1. I'm faster in the evenings and at night; 2. I was a bit hypoglycemic this morning; 3. As unfit and heavy as I am, it pays to play to my strength, which is running kind of fast in an anaerobic manner; 4. Many times in my forty-one-year, four-and-a-half-month running career, I've had breakthrough moments after I suffered to complete runs longer than whatever the contemporary norm happened to be.
My money's on none of the above, though I'd go with 3 if those were my only choices.
Oh, by the way—and this will sound like an exaggeration but isn't—the two interval miles tonight were right at a billion times easier than the two jogging miles this morning.
