I walked the Maple Street Loop this morning, through tiny and sparse raindrops, in 29:36.
The DFL Green Bay Packers (4-0), without benefit of the NFL Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers*, beat the Dadburn Gallinappers (2-2), 136.47-91.22.
*we lost our Rodger-less game last season when we had to play Tim Tebow as his replacement

Park Hill Loop/DFL
I walked the Park Hill Loop this morning in 1:19:20. It sprinkled a bit.
The NFL Green Bay Packers have a bye this weekend, which handicaps the DFL Packers. Instead of Aaron Rogers, we'll go with New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith. Still, we're fifteen-point favorites against the Dadburn Gallinappers. Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas will make his first start as a Packer.
A loss for the DFL Packers would require a miracle for the Dadburn Gallinappers comparable to the one that allowed Moses to somehow round off significant sins to ten. We lead 129.47-74.92. We have one player to go, and the Gallinappers two. Yahoo gives us a 100-percent chance of victory, which seems insane, considering the insanity of precisely ten commandments.

Levy Trail/First Tee/DFL
I walked two miles on the Levy Trail this morning in 32:06, and later golfed nine holes at First Tee with Rob Wistrand. I scored a 55, with 1 par, 3 bogies, 1 double, 2 triples, and 2 quadruples. I hit my woods and irons fairly well, but chipped poorly, and used 23 putts, the most since I started keeping count. I had two 3-putts, and three 4-putts. The greens were rocket fast, and in a couple cases as unfair as the greens were at that apartment complex in Sherwood. Rob's gotten pretty good in the three years since we last played. He scored a 45.
Oh, and one other thing. I bought a Filet O'Fish Meal at McDonalds before we played. Including tax, it cost $6.90.

Green Bay Packers Devastates Tuck Rule 4 Life for Third in a Row
The Green Bay Packers earned their third win in as many matchups when they destroyed Tuck Rule 4 Life 99.84 - 60.23. They got a lift from Jamaal Charles, who led the team with 25.51 points and Aaron Rodgers who had 23.80. The streak is the result of some high scoring by the Green Bay Packers, who own the second-highest overall point total in the league this season and are averaging 125.63 points per matchup. Green Bay Packers started two players with zero points while Tuck Rule 4 Life also served up two goose eggs, meaning both sides missed scoring opportunities. Tuck Rule 4 Life falls to 12th place with a 1-2 record. Green Bay stays unbeaten and in first place after having beaten The 546 Posse (144.65 - 114.21) and the Complete Sellouts (132.40 - 85.32).

- Jamaal Charles

Levy Trail/DFL
The weather remains lovely. I walked three miles on the Levy Trail early this afternoon in 44:47, and felt great. It helped me to recover from yesterday's disappointments. The NFL Green Bay Packers lost a heartbreaker to Cincinnati, 34-30. The DFL Packers will almost certainly win, though most of their players have underachieved. Fortunately, Tuck Rule 4 Life sucks dicks. We lead 87.14-48.22. I have Denver receiver Demaryius Thomas going in Monday Night Football. Tuck Rule has Pulaski Oak Grove graduate Darren McFadden, who plays for Oakland. Both of my franchises appear more vulnerable than I had thought, or hoped.

Maple Street Loop
I walked the Maple Street Loop this morning in 31:25. The weather here in Levy is perfect. Too bad I'll have to spend the day inside, watching both of my Packers teams, and Ed Reed's return (with the Houston Texans, against Baltimore for Christ's sake). The DFL Packers are off to a nice start. Jamaal Charles scored 25.51 fantasy points for Kansas City on Thursday night, which I hope helps us crush Tuck Rule 4 Life.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff
PINE BLUFF—I walked from Golden Lion Stadium to and through the Arkansas-Pine Bluff campus this afternoon, and was out for 50:45. By the way, on the drive here, I heard a comedian on NPR pronounce Canada as if it were short for Canadian, and he wasn't at that moment trying to be funny.

Burns Park Loop/First Tee
I walked with the Geezers this morning. Bob McKinney and I took a slightly longer version of the Burns Park Loop; we went down to the Covered Bridge, so stretched the loop out to 5.8 miles, walked in 1:42:33. An hour later I played nine holes at First Tee with Jeff Krupsaw. I had an 11 on the par-5 eighth. Otherwise, I had 3 bogies, 4 doubles, and 1 triple, for a 56. I think I used 19 putts. Man, it was hot out there, at least 94°F, but we had a great time. Lots of laughs, and lots of fantasy football talk. Jeff also has a good team. In fact, at its best, better than mine.

Green Bay Packers Clobber Complete Sellouts, Make an Early Statement
The Green Bay Packers clobbered the Complete Sellouts 132.40 - 85.32 while also putting up the second-highest score of the week. This was a story for the grandchildren, with the 47.08-point margin of victory being the third-highest recorded in the league this season. The Complete Sellouts were led by Calvin Johnson with 25.58 points and Terrelle Pryor who scored 14.30. The Packers started one player with zero points while Complete Sellouts also served up one goose egg, meaning each team left something on the table. Green Bay (2-0, 277.05 points) shifts into first place while Complete Sellouts (0-2, 169.39 points) winds up in the cellar.

Orange Street Loop
I walked and jogged the Orange Street Loop tonight in 39:08, with splits of 13:20, 12:40, and 13:08, fueled in part by Lilian Perkins' apple pie. I'm telling you, she makes the best pie crust I have ever eaten. It's almost too good. The apples tasted jealous.

Hash/DFL
I jogged and walked Z Man's Hash run this afternoon, from near Pulaski Heights Junior High, through Allsopp Park, and back. I was out for 48:06, and am calling it three miles.
The DFL Green Bay Packers are beating the tar out of the Complete Sellouts. It would take a parting-of-the-Red Sea sort of miracle for the Sellouts to win. The NFL Green Bay Packers beat the Washington Redskins, 38-20.

Covered Bridge Loop
I jogged and walked three laps (six miles) of the Covered Bridge Loop this morning in 1:14:04. I screwed up the splits, but did the last with Elaine Gimblet and Suzy Phillips in 23:52. It was under 60°F when I started, and 63 now at 8:57.

Levy Trail
I walked the Levy Trail through a dry, clear morning in 29:36. At least two dog-walkers and two bike-riders were out there with me. Before I walked, I road the Schwinn Delmar Cruiser over the Levy Loop in 10:36 (by the way, my two-mile run PR is in the 10:30s, set the summer of '82 on the late North Little Rock High track). You should google the bike. It's beautiful. I later made my first trip to Kroger on it. There's a basket on the handle bars big enough to hold two or maybe three plastic bags of groceries.

Levy Trail/Emerson Drive Loop
I walked three miles on the Levy Trail this morning in 46:08. It's hot here, too hot for September. I guess it's payback. Tonight I completed the one-mile Emerson Drive Loop in less than five minutes, I'd estimate. I didn't time it. All I did was take my new, $119 Schwinn Delmar Cruiser out for a test ride. It's nice, like a bike from the fifties. One speed, with coaster breaks.

Fort Roots Loop/DFL
I signed back up with the Geezers this morning, and we walked the five-mile Fort Roots Loop in 1:27:07.

Green Bay Packers 144.65, The 546 Posse 114.71
(the following is a computer generated, Yahoo story of the only Democrat Football League game anyone who reads or writes this blog would possibly give a rat's butt about) The Green Bay Packers took down The 546 Posse 144.65 - 114.71 and recorded the second-highest score in the league this week. Even though both teams hit their projections, the Green Bay Packers put up 19.2% more than their projected 121.35 points to secure the win. Matthew Stafford led The 546 Posse with 31.65 points while Larry Fitzgerald racked up 22.64. To make matters worse, The 546 Posse got zero points from Mario Williams. The Green Bay Packers kick off the campaign with a 1-0 record, good enough for second place. The 546 Posse open at 0-1 and in 11th place.

Orange Street Loop
Man, I can't remember the last time I went for a really fast walk. I mean, the last time before this morning, when I walked the Orange Street Loop in 39:21, with splits of13:39, 13:06, and 12:36. I was tired. I'm still sweating.
The DFL Green Bay Packers have won their first game. They lead the 546 Posse, 121.94-114-71. The Posse have no players left. The Packers have two. Now it's just a matter of running up the score. The NFL Packers lost to the San Francisco 49ers, 34-28.
OVERHEARD
"What kind of walk is that? It looks like you're about to fall over headfirst."
—Jeff Lukas, as I walked south on Orange Street, three driveways from my house. I thought I was leaning too much, but not so much that I'd hear from the peanut gallery

Levy
I walked randomly through Levy this morning for 38:45, starting on the Levy Trail, winding back through the old Walmart parking lot, and eventually to Kroger, where I picked up some chicken wings and a newspaper, which I took back, because I realized at the checkout stand that I didn't have my frigging wallet.
OVERHEARD
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."
—North Little Rock policeman through the window of a cop SUV, after he'd seen me jump when I heard a vehicle driving immediately behind me on the Levy Trail. It reminded me of the fear generated by that pickup truck on the 14th fairway at Hindman, back in '06
"Another day another dollar? What do you mean? You should be rich by now, man. They fucking you, man, out'a money!""

Levy Trail/DFL
I jogged slowly for a total of eleven minutes to complete two miles of the Levy Trail this morning in 26:10. Here's what my hip injury has regressed to: if it felt the way it did as I walked today, and I hadn't recently injured it, I don't think it would've concerned me at all. I'm not sure I would've noticed. It feels perfectly normal when I jog.
The Green Bay Packers got off to a rousing start Thursday night in defense of their 2012 Democrat Football League Championship. Denver Broncos' end Demaryius Thomas scored 29.75 fantasy points, with five catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Levy Trail
I jogged very slowly for a total of eight minutes, and otherwise walked two miles on the Levy Trail this morning in 27:09. I had a slight limp the first few minutes I walked. My hip still feels funny.

Extra credit goes to anyone who recognized the absurdity of, "It's hard to understand how the Red Sox haven't gotten as many hits as they have," the first time they read it.
