Dripping in sweat by the fairway of the first hole, I scored a 42 for nine holes at Fort Roots this evening, with two pars and seven bogies, all the while using tips exposed to me in Sports Illustrated's Golf Plus, by Adam Scott in Golf magazine (which I missed the first time but read this morning while I waited for Darrell to cut my hair), and during a nine-minute breakdown of Ben Hogan's swing on You Tube. My approach shots on the par-fives came from 50 yards. I hit lovely, full-swing, choked-up 60-degree wedges on both, and missed a 15-footer for birdie on No. 9 by a cunt hair.
I think I could have broken 110 on the old course, assuming I could've taken an unplayable lie from the road-hole bunker.
At 10:30 p.m. Central, after I watched Cincinnati beat Milwaukee 6-5, I walked and jogged the Levy Loop in 25:12.
Oh, I read a beautiful sentence yesteday: "I watched people tee off on the first tee of the old course this afternoon and then walked on the beach where Chariots of Fire was filmed."
